Our Work

Manufacturing

We have a wide range of experience in managing industrial buildings in the manufacturing sector across regions in Zambia having managed capital programmes which include large scale -production, assembly, storage and distribution.

Service Delivery Model

Having dealt with different clients over the years, we have gained mastery in developing a model that customises the needs of client(s). Although our service delivery model in this sector differs from client to client depending on the intended use of the building, when engaged to deliver our service, our general principles include.

Understanding the objectives to meet expectation

Freddie Ricx Consults does not just execute the project without understanding client’s expectations and what success means to them. It is our obligation to interpret client’s investment objectives into monetary value and constantly keep our clients informed about risks that may affect the investment outcome for proper decision making.

Managing Expectations and Controls

We manage risks throughout the development process and monitor progress to ensure we execute projects within budget and time.

Regulatory Compliance

We understand that industrial buildings face stricter regulations than commercial ones. With our presence in Zambia, we are aligned with the regulatory compliance and laws that may affect the development process. Therefore, before embarking on the project, its always in our interest to understand if the client is on board to the local compliance and if not, we provide advisory to aid the process.

Developing a Procurement Strategy and contracts

We develop the best cost-effective procurement strategy and contracts that speak to the funding model of the project which takes into account risks associated with potential delays of long lead items etc.

Understanding the Manufacturing Process

When engaged on the project, it’s in our interest to first understand client's specific manufacturing operations to ensure the building design and cost plan align with the functional needs of production, machinery, and material movement, rather than just aesthetics. This includes:

Layout and Workflow: How the production line operates, efficient movement of raw materials and finished products (logistics), and space planning for machinery placement.

Specialised Equipment: Costing for bespoke, heavy, or sensitive machinery and the associated infrastructure (foundations, power supply, ventilation, specialist Mechanical and Electrical systems) they require, which often involves significant capital expenditure.

Environmental Controls: Requirements for clean rooms, specific air pressure, moisture control, or temperature regulation for sensitive products or processes.

Zambia’s Mining Sector: Overview

Zambia’s manufacturing sector, contributing around 8% to GDP, focuses on value addition in priority areas like Processed Foods, Textiles, Engineering, Wood Products, Leather, Mineral Processing, Pharmaceuticals, and the Blue Economy**, aiming for job creation and reduced reliance on raw exports, though challenged by high business costs and inconsistent energy. Key players include Zambeef, Zambia Sugar, Dangote Cement, and various companies in textiles and chemicals, with government efforts and industrial parks supporting growth, especially under initiatives like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). [Read more on https://www.mcti.gov.zm/
